Distances are road distances from the terminals, rounded to the nearest 5 km. Drive times are door to door in normal daytime traffic and already include the minutes inside large resort complexes.
Price is per vehicle, one-way, taxes included. 7–14 pax uses a van: Standard +$20 / VIP +$40 on local zones; quoted in the form.
Why our drive times are longer than the map says
A mapping app measures gate to gate on an empty road. A real transfer includes the loop out of the airport, the security post at the resort entrance, and in the bigger complexes several minutes of internal road before the lobby. We quote the whole thing, which is why our Bávaro figure is 20 to 30 minutes rather than the 18 a map will show you.
The main east-west route, the Boulevard Turístico del Este, is a good road and is not normally congested. The slow stretches are inside Bávaro itself in the late afternoon and around the Verón junction at shift-change times.
Near, middle and far zones
Cap Cana, Punta Cana Village and Cabeza de Toro are the near zones — under 20 km, and you are at the lobby before the queue at the airport taxi rank has cleared. Bávaro, Arena Gorda, Macao and Uvero Alto form the middle band at 20 to 40 km, or 20 to 60 minutes.
Miches, Bayahibe, La Romana, Santo Domingo and the Samaná peninsula are long-distance runs of 85 km and up. These are comfortable in a private car and genuinely unpleasant in anything shared; they also need the earlier departure buffer on the way back.
Night and early-morning drives
Between roughly 10pm and 6am the roads are empty and the drive time falls to the lower end of each band. We do not charge a night surcharge, and late arrivals are the normal case rather than an exception at PUJ.
The one thing that changes at night is the resort gate: at several properties the barrier is staffed but the lobby is not, so the driver takes you to the night check-in desk rather than the main entrance.
