What PUJ arrivals looks like at 01:00
The terminal is open air and, after the last European wave clears, very quiet. Two or three flights land inside a short window — a delayed charter from Madrid, a diverted domestic connection, a late Toronto arrival — and then the hall empties. Immigration is fast at that hour, usually 15 to 25 minutes rather than the 45 you get at 16:00, and bags come out onto one or two belts instead of five.
The quiet is the part that surprises people. Shops are shut, the currency desks are closed, and the crowd of drivers holding signs is a handful of people instead of a wall. That makes it easier to find your driver, not harder — but only if you know he is standing inside, past customs, and not somewhere on the road outside.
Nothing about the arrival procedure changes at night. You still clear immigration, collect bags, hand in the customs slip and walk out through the same door into the meeting area. Plan the same 25 to 45 minutes from wheels-down to that door and tell anyone waiting for you at the hotel to expect you an hour after landing on a Bávaro run.
No night surcharge — and why we say it plainly
Every rate on our list is the same figure at any hour of the day: Cap Cana $29, Punta Cana Village $29, Cabeza de Toro $32, Bávaro $35, Arena Gorda $42, Macao $49, Uvero Alto $60, Bayahíbe $110, La Romana $125, Santo Domingo $250, Miches $129. VIP runs $69 to $349 across those same zones. One-way, per vehicle, one to six passengers, taxes and tolls included.
We are explicit about this because the curb is not. A tariff quoted at 02:00 with three tired families in the queue behind you is a different negotiation than the same tariff at noon, and the late hour is exactly when the number tends to move. Our figure is written on WhatsApp before you fly and it is the figure the driver collects.
The driver's own night is our problem, not yours. A 03:00 pickup means the dispatcher rosters someone who slept in the afternoon. That is a scheduling cost we absorb rather than pass through as a line item.
How to find the sign when the hall is thin
Walk straight out of customs and stop. Do not follow anyone who approaches you before that point. The meeting area is directly in front of the exit and, at night, holds perhaps five to fifteen people. Scan the signs left to right once — yours has your surname printed on it, the way you spelled it on WhatsApp.
If you booked under a travel companion's name, look for theirs. If you gave us a company name for an invoice, we print the passenger name anyway unless you asked otherwise. Tell us at booking if you want something specific on the board; we print whatever you ask.
If you have walked the line twice and seen nothing, do not leave the terminal. Step back inside, stay in the arrivals hall and message the WhatsApp number. The dispatcher has the driver's live position and will tell you within a minute or two whether he is at the sign line, parking, or two minutes out because the flight beat its estimate.
What to do if your phone is dead
This happens more often than a missed driver. Two things make it a non-event. First, the meeting point never changes: inside arrivals, past customs, name sign. You do not need a phone to complete the pickup. Second, we hold the booking against your flight number, not against a message thread — if you never write to us after landing, the driver still stands there.
Practical steps if you are dark: walk out of customs, find the sign, done. If the sign is not there, ask any of the drivers in the meeting line for the dispatcher — most of the private operators know each other, and ours will be reachable. The information desk inside arrivals will also let you make a local call.
Belt-and-braces: screenshot the WhatsApp confirmation before you fly, and write the number on paper in your passport wallet. Battery packs do not survive a nine-hour flight plus a two-hour delay as often as people expect.
Why Uber still fails at night
Nothing about the ride-hailing situation improves after dark. App pickups are not permitted inside PUJ arrivals at any hour, and the number of app drivers awake and within range of the airport at 02:00 is small. The realistic outcomes are no cars on the map, a quote that cancels after four minutes, or a driver asking you to walk off airport property to the public road.
That last one is the reason we write this guide at all. Walking a road shoulder at 02:00 with suitcases, a stroller and a child who has been awake for fourteen hours is not a transport plan. In daylight it is inconvenient; at night it is the sort of decision people regret.
The official taxi rank does operate at night and it is legitimate. It is also thinner, which means less choice and a worse position for you if the first quote is high.
Red-eye departures: leave-lobby buffers
Night arrivals usually come with an early departure at the other end of the holiday. The buffers we quote for a 06:00 to 09:00 flight are the same ones we use all day, because the road is empty but the airline's check-in cutoff is not: Cap Cana and Punta Cana Village 2.5 hours before departure, Cabeza de Toro 2.5 to 3, Bávaro 3, Arena Gorda 3, Macao 3 to 3.5, Uvero Alto 3.5, Bayahíbe and La Romana 3.5 to 4, Miches 4 to 4.5, Santo Domingo 5 to 5.5.
Those buffers are measured from the hotel lobby, not from your room. For a 05:00 lobby pickup, arrange the checkout the night before and ask reception for a boxed breakfast; most resorts do it without fuss if you ask at dinner rather than at midnight.
We confirm the exact pickup time by WhatsApp the day before, and the driver is in the lobby ten minutes early. If you come down and he is not visible, he is at the porte-cochère — the resorts do not all allow cars to idle at the door overnight.

- What if my phone is dead when I land?

- Does Uber work at PUJ late at night?
