The short runs: 10 to 30 minutes

Cap Cana, Punta Cana Village, Punta Cana resort strip, Cabeza de Toro and Bávaro sit within half an hour of the terminal on good road. These are the zones where a late landing barely costs you anything: the drive is quick, the route is lit, and even at midnight you are in your lobby well inside 40 minutes of walking out of arrivals.

Bávaro is the biggest and most spread-out of them. The published time covers the whole strip, but the difference between the first and last resort on Playa El Cortecito is a real ten minutes — worth knowing on departure day, not on arrival.

The medium runs: 30 to 60 minutes

Arena Gorda, Macao and Uvero Alto stretch north along the coast. The road is good as far as Macao, then narrows, and the last stretch into Uvero Alto is slower than the map suggests — especially after heavy rain. Plan the upper end of the range for a morning departure; the 10am to 1pm check-in wave at PUJ punishes optimism.

The long runs: 1 to 4 hours

Miches and Playa Esmeralda, Bayahíbe and Dominicus, La Romana, Santo Domingo, SDQ airport and Las Terrenas in Samaná are full road trips rather than airport hops. On these routes the vehicle genuinely matters — a luxury SUV or Sprinter is worth the difference after the first hour — and a comfort stop is normal and included.

If you are landing at PUJ and staying in Bayahíbe, La Romana or Santo Domingo, check the airport-choice guide before you book next year's flights: for some of those areas a different airport is genuinely cheaper overall.

Frequently asked

Which areas do you actually cover from PUJ?
Everything on this page: the Punta Cana and Bávaro coast, Cap Cana, Uvero Alto, Macao, Arena Gorda, Cabeza de Toro, Punta Cana Village, plus the longer runs to Miches, Bayahíbe and Dominicus, La Romana, Santo Domingo, SDQ airport and Las Terrenas in Samaná.
Is the price different for a far hotel inside the same zone?
No. The rate is set per zone, not per hotel, so the last resort in Uvero Alto costs the same as the first one. That is why every hotel page shows the zone rate rather than its own price.
How accurate are the drive times?
They are real door-to-door ranges, not brochure numbers, and they already allow for the usual traffic band. The upper end of each range is what you should plan for on a busy afternoon or on departure day.
My hotel is not listed. Can you still drive there?
Almost certainly. Send the hotel, villa or address on WhatsApp and we tell you which zone it falls in and what the fixed rate is, before you book anything.
