Price: quoted after landing vs agreed before you fly
The airport rank works from a per-car tariff by destination. It is a real published structure, but you meet it at the moment of least leverage: bags in hand, kids melting, no comparison available. Our rates are fixed and written down before you leave home — $29 to Cap Cana, $35 to Bávaro, $60 to Uvero Alto, per vehicle for one to six people, taxes and tolls in.
The typical curb range shown in the table below is what guests report back to us after pricing both. Treat it as an observed range for that hour and that season, not a competitor's rate card. It moves; our number does not.
Wait: the queue vs the sign
PUJ lands in waves. Between 3pm and 6pm four or five widebodies can clear customs inside an hour, and the rank works through that surge in bursts. Twenty minutes in line outside is a normal outcome on a bad afternoon.
The pre-booked driver is inside arrivals before you clear customs, holding a sign with your surname. Your walk from the customs door to a seat with the air conditioning running is usually under three minutes. That difference is small on paper and enormous with a toddler.
Flight delays: who absorbs them
This is the clearest gap between the two products. A taxi at the rank does not know or care that you were meant to land at 6pm and landed at 11:40pm — the car is simply whichever car is there when you walk out, at whatever the rate is at that hour.
A pre-booked transfer is attached to your flight number. We watch it. A three-hour delay moves the driver, not the price. There is no waiting fee for a late aircraft, and no phone call at 30,000 feet trying to rearrange anything. The only thing we ask is that you send the flight number and not just the landing time, because the number is what we can actually track.
Night arrivals
After about 11pm the calculation changes hard. The rank thins, the road north past Macao toward Uvero Alto is unlit for long stretches with no shoulder, and resort security gates at that hour want a name on a list before they raise the barrier.
A pre-booked driver already has your reservation name and the property's access routine. For the far zones this is the difference between a 50-minute drive and a 20-minute negotiation at a gate at 1am. If your flight lands after midnight, book ahead — that is the one case where we would say it flatly rather than let you weigh it.
Groups and luggage
A curb taxi is sized for what is at the front of the queue. Six adults with six large cases plus a golf bag is not that car, and splitting into two taxis doubles the tariff and separates the party.
Our Standard covers one to six passengers with luggage in a single SUV or minivan at one price. Seven to fourteen moves to a passenger van: plus $20 on Standard, plus $40 on VIP, quoted in the same message. Car seats are free — tell us the ages and we fit them before the pickup rather than discussing it at the curb.
When the curb taxi is genuinely the right call
If you are one person with a carry-on, landing at 2pm, staying in Cap Cana or the Village, and you did not plan ahead — take the rank. The run is ten minutes, the price difference is a few dollars, and there is nothing to solve.
Everything else — kids, four or more bags, a late arrival, a long zone, or a fixed number you want to see before you fly — is the case the pre-booked car was built for.
Our fixed rate vs typical observed curb range
| Zone | Drive time | Our fixed Standard | Typical observed curb |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cap Cana | 10–15 min | $29 | $40–$50 |
| Bávaro / El Cortecito / Los Corales | 20–30 min | $35 | $45–$55 |
| Uvero Alto | 45–60 min | $60 | $85–$110 |
Curb figures are a typical observed range reported by guests who priced both, not a published rate from any named company. Our rates are fixed, per vehicle, one-way, taxes included.
Price is per vehicle, one-way, taxes included. 7–14 pax uses a van: Standard +$20 / VIP +$40 on local zones; quoted in the form.
Send the flight, get the price in writing
Hotel name, flight number, date and party size. We reply with the fixed rate, track the flight and meet you inside arrivals with a name sign. Pay the driver on arrival.
Book on WhatsAppQuestions we get on this
- Are airport taxis at PUJ safe?
- Yes. The rank outside arrivals is the licensed airport concession. The trade-off is not safety, it is that the price is quoted at the curb after you land and the car is whatever is next in the queue.
- Is a private transfer cheaper than a taxi from PUJ?
- Usually, and the gap widens with distance. Our fixed Bávaro rate is $35 against a typical observed curb range of $45 to $55; Uvero Alto is $60 against roughly $85 to $110. On a ten-minute Cap Cana run the difference is small.
- Do I pay in advance for a private transfer?
- No. You confirm on WhatsApp and pay the driver on arrival, cash or card, at the number we quoted in writing. Nothing leaves your account before the trip.
- What if there are eight of us?
- Seven to fourteen passengers ride in a passenger van: Standard plus $20, VIP plus $40 on local zones. One vehicle, one price, everyone together.
