What counts as Macao
Macao is the surf beach north of Arena Gorda plus the inland pocket behind it, where the resort roads run out toward the ranch and buggy tracks. It is a genuinely longer run than Bávaro — you leave the hotel strip, cut inland and come back toward the coast — which is why it is $49 Standard rather than a strip price. The area covers the public beach with the surf schools and fish shacks, the resorts sitting behind the dunes, and the villas and small hotels on the roads toward the ranches. One warning worth reading: several properties marketed as "Macao" actually sit inside Arena Gorda, and a few Uvero Alto hotels also claim the name. Send us the exact hotel name and we confirm which zone it is in, in writing, before the driver is assigned.
