Where Bayahíbe actually is, and why the name confuses people
Bayahíbe is a small fishing village on the south-east coast, about 20 kilometres east of La Romana. Next to it, along one beach road, sits the Dominicus strip: a line of large all-inclusive resorts on Playa Dominicus. Locals and hotels use the two names almost interchangeably, and several properties carry a third name entirely.
That is where bookings go wrong. Secrets La Romana and Hilton La Romana are not in La Romana town, they are on the Dominicus side, and they are billed at the Bayahíbe rate of $110 Standard. Iberostar Selection Hacienda Dominicus is not the Iberostar on the Bávaro strip, which is a completely different resort 90 minutes away. Catalonia Gran Dominicus sits at the far end of the same beach road.
So when you book a transfer, give the exact resort name rather than the town. Each of those hotels has its own page on this site with the drive, the entrance and the rate, and the driver is dispatched against the property, not the postcode.
The drive from PUJ: route, time and what the road is like
From Punta Cana airport the car heads west on the Coral highway (Autovía del Coral), passes Higüey, and then turns south toward the coast. It is a good two-lane toll road for most of the run, with tolls already included in your price, and traffic is rarely the problem — this is not the Bávaro strip.
Plan 60 to 75 minutes to the Dominicus resorts and 70 to 85 minutes to Bayahíbe village or La Romana town. Add ten minutes in heavy rain, and a few more if you are staying at the far end of the Dominicus road, past the earlier resorts.

The Dominicus checkpoint
One shared guard post sits at the start of the Dominicus beach road and serves every resort along it. The guard checks the hotel name before waving the car through, so the exact property name in your booking is not a formality — it is what keeps the car moving without a phone call at the barrier.
Once past the checkpoint, each resort has its own entrance and reception. Properties split into adults-only and family sections, like Hilton La Romana, share one entrance but two lobbies, so name the section too.

Why a shared shuttle hurts on this route specifically
On a 20-minute run to Cap Cana a shared shuttle costs you a little time. On a 75-minute run to Dominicus it costs you a lot. Shuttles fill with passengers heading to four or five different resorts on the same strip, then work down the road in order — the last family off can lose 30 to 40 minutes on top of an already long drive, after a long flight.
There is also the wait before departure. A shared vehicle leaves when it is full, which can mean 45 minutes standing at the curb at PUJ while other flights land. A private car leaves when you are in it.

Saona island: how the morning really runs
Saona is the reason most people come to this coast. The boats — catamarans and speedboats — leave from Bayahíbe village and from Dominicus beach in the morning, usually between 07:30 and 09:00, and return mid to late afternoon. It is part of Parque Nacional del Este, so all trips run with licensed operators from those departure points.
If you are staying on the Dominicus or Bayahíbe strip, you are already there: the excursion desk collects you from the lobby or you walk to the pier. Your transfer only has to get you to the hotel the day before, which is the simple case.
If you are staying in Punta Cana, Bávaro or Uvero Alto, a Saona day means being on the road by roughly 05:30 to 06:30 to reach the pier in time. Some travellers do it with an excursion bus that stops at several resorts; others prefer a private driver for the day who takes them straight to the pier, waits, and brings them back. Which airport should you fly into for Bayahíbe?
La Romana airport (LRM) is the closest at 20 to 30 minutes, but it has few international flights. Punta Cana (PUJ) is 60 to 75 minutes away with by far the widest schedule, and it is what most travellers use. Santo Domingo (SDQ) is roughly two hours and usually only makes sense if the fare difference is large.
In practice, flying into PUJ and taking a fixed-price private transfer is the normal answer. The which airport guide compares all three with drive times and rates.

Prices, vehicles and what is included
One way, per vehicle, one to six passengers, taxes and tolls included: Bayahíbe and Dominicus $110 Standard or $179 VIP; La Romana town and Casa de Campo $125 Standard or $199 VIP; the La Romana cruise terminal is covered in the cruise port guide.
Standard is a modern air-conditioned car or minivan. VIP is a luxury SUV or executive van. Seven to fourteen passengers go in a van, which adds $20 to the Standard rate and $40 to VIP. Car seats are free, and bottled water is in the vehicle.
Flight tracking, meet-and-greet with a name sign inside arrivals, and waiting time are all included — nothing is metered. The prices page lists every zone in one table.
The return: leave earlier than you think
Going home from Bayahíbe or Dominicus, the lobby pickup is 3.5 to 4 hours before departure from PUJ, because you are adding a 60 to 75 minute drive to the normal three-hour airport routine. From La Romana town it is the same window.
Book both legs at the same time. It is one message, the price is the same fixed rate in each direction, and it avoids arranging a 04:30 lobby pickup the night before. If your flight home leaves from La Romana or Santo Domingo instead, say so when booking; the buffer and the price both change.
